Vent-Axia Highlights the Importance of Filters on Clean Air Day

Submitted by Kate on

Leading British ventilation manufacturer Vent-Axia is proudly supporting Global Action Plan’s Clean Air Day on Thursday, 18 June 2026. This year, Vent-Axia is marking the day by highlighting the role air filters play in maintaining good indoor air quality (IAQ) and reminding homeowners of the importance of regular ventilation maintenance. Filters are a key component of many ventilation systems, such as Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems and Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) units, helping remove airborne pollutants and particulate matter from incoming air. With the Future Homes Standard, set to deliver increasingly airtight and energy efficient homes, effective ventilation and filtration will play an ever more important role in maintaining healthy indoor environments.

Air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to our health. Breathing in dirty air impacts us all and is linked to a range of health problems throughout our lives, from premature birth and childhood asthma to heart and lung disease, diabetes and strokes in later life. While outdoor air pollution often dominates the headlines, good indoor air quality is vital since people spend around 90% of their time indoors. Ensuring ventilation is operating effectively is therefore essential to maintaining healthy indoor environments.

Designed to remove air pollutants and particulates from incoming air, filters help improve IAQ by reducing contaminants such as dust, pollen and particulate matter entering the home. However, over time, filters can collect dust and pollens and become less effective. As filters become clogged, airflow can become restricted, reducing the amount of air entering a property and impacting both IAQ and system performance.

“Clean Air Day provides an important opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of indoor air quality on our health,” said Katie Scott, Channel Marketing Manager at Vent-Axia. While outdoor air pollution gains much attention, maintaining good indoor air quality is just as important. Filters are often the unsung heroes of ventilation systems, quietly removing pollutants from the air we breathe every day. By replacing filters as needed and servicing ventilation systems, households can help ensure they benefit from cleaner, healthier air. With the Future Homes Standard driving the construction of increasingly airtight and energy-efficient homes, ventilation systems will play an even greater role in maintaining good indoor air quality. This means homeowners, landlords and housebuilders will need to pay greater attention to filter maintenance to ensure systems continue to perform as intended.”

Vent-Axia recommends that filters are checked every three to six months, although this varies depending on a property’s location and exposure to pollution. Homes located next to busy roads or other sources of outdoor pollution may need to be checked more frequently, due to higher levels of airborne particulates. Filters can be easily removed and replaced with new filters to ensure optimum performance.

Different grades of filters are available to provide different levels of protection. Coarse ISO 45% (G3) filters provide the minimum required filtration, while ISO ePM10 50% (M5) filters remove smaller particles, including pollen. For enhanced filtration, ISO ePM2.5 70% (F7) filters capture fine PM2.5 particles commonly associated with vehicle exhaust emissions and other forms of air pollution. In particularly polluted areas, higher levels of filtration are available to further improve indoor air quality.

Despite their importance, filters are often overlooked once a ventilation system has been installed. Yet regular filter replacement is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to help ensure a ventilation system continues to deliver good indoor air quality, energy efficiency and occupant comfort. By checking and replacing filters when required, homeowners can help maintain the effectiveness of their ventilation system while protecting the quality of air they breathe every day.

Regular servicing also helps maintain energy efficiency, ensuring ventilation systems continue operating at optimum performance and air quality, as well as helping avoid unnecessary repair costs. Cleaning and maintaining ventilation systems is particularly important in urban and polluted environments where filters can become dirtier more quickly.

Vent-Axia offers a comprehensive range of replacement filters, filtration solutions and service packages to help maintain healthy indoor environments. Its range includes replacement filters for MVHR and Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) systems, as well as advanced filtration options, such as the Vent-Axia Pure Air filtration system, which is designed to increase filtration levels and help create a healthier indoor environment. Vent-Axia also offers MVHR and PIV servicing packages, including filter replacement, system inspection and cleaning, helping ensure ventilation systems continue to perform efficiently while delivering good IAQ.
